Homework
Home Reading Program - The home reading bag goes home on Monday or Tuesday and is due back the following Monday. If there is no school on Monday, then the bag is due on Tuesday. Please fill out the recording sheet each week. Only use 1-2 rows per week. You do not have to list the book title each time you read the book. The titles only have to be listed once for the week even if you read them 5 times. Also, only one response sheet needs to be done each week. When your child does the response, please let them do the work. If you don't think that I will be able to read what they wrote, then please write underneath what it says. The writing should be in a complete sentence or two and it needs to make sense. We have been focusing on starting with a capital, putting spaces between words, ending with punctuation and forming our letters correctly, so please remind your child of these as they are doing their writing.
Some students may bring home books that are too easy for them. There may be several reasons for this. One reason might be that they need to build their confidence in their reading and reading an easier text will help with this. Another reason might be that they are struggling with fluency (making their reading sound like talking) and expression (reading the punctuation and text features like words in bold print). Finally, they may be struggling with comprehending the text. It is not enough for students to just read the text. They must have all the pieces in place for me to move them up in levels. I don't start looking for fluency and expression until level C.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the home reading.
